Folktales Around the World – Little Red Riding Hood

This ELA standard-focused unit engages students in various versions of the Little Red Riding Hood Folktale from around the world. Students learn begin their learning with the original, German version written by the Brothers Grimm. Throughout the unit, students identify 5 core elements of folktales (character, setting, plot, cultural references, and moral lesson) and eventually can identify these elements in additional versions through their work in Expert Groups. Finally, students engage in grade-level writing to explain the elements of a folktale.
