For over 35 years, the OCDE Project GLAD® National Training Center has provided exemplary training for educators both nationally and internationally, resulting in students’ access to quality instruction and high-levels of success.
We train teachers on how to make content come alive through sketching, pictures, chants, and media with corresponding language. Deep cognition is developed through well-designed lessons building upon brain, biliteracy, second language acquisition, and reading & writing research.
OCDE Project GLAD® classrooms promote environments that respect and honor each child’s voice, personal life experience, beliefs, language and culture. We cultivate the social emotional learning (SEL) competencies of self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, relationship skills and social awareness.
We work with schools, districts and educational agencies to identify needs and create customized supports for implementation. A top priority is building sustainability to ensure all students get what they need.
With GLAD®, you see that difference in teachers. Teachers are a lot more focused on the vocabulary and the visuals that go with it. Bringing GLAD® to them has really opened their eyes to a different way of teaching and it’s engaging our students too. There’s a lot more use of language as opposed to just copying the notes and regurgitating the questions.
The strategies are amazing and the demos are so very helpful in being able to implement them into the classroom. The trainers are SO knowledgeable!
I feel like the strategies are relevant and easily adaptable to different classrooms, teaching styles, and learner needs. The model is highly meaningful, positive, and I believe substantially supports language and content learning.
Love the strategies to help kids stay accountable; language acquisition for ELs + ALL
It’s the best teaching I have ever done. I loved teaching with OCDE Project GLAD® strategies and my students loved the learning.
If students don’t have access to the content that’s being delivered, which is usually in English, gains towards college and career opportunities become increasingly more challenging.. So I would say that this is applicable to all teachers in the most rural or the most densely urban cities. This is your integrated approach to teaching language.
