The power of YET is a big factor in our success at Sunburst. If our kids understand the power of YET they will have a greater belief in themselves as well as gain better self confidence. Working with specific students in smaller groups works to give them the opportunity to learn their own voice and to gain confidence. When you can’t read, or struggle with it, you lose so much confidence in your ability to succeed. So, we want to give them their self confidence back. Another benefit for us at Sunburst is the partnership with the military. Student are, for a lack of better term, forced to engage. That forced engagement is what essentially opens up the treasure chest and these students begin to learn just what they are capable and they see that just a little hard work goes a long way and that getting an A in a class feels better than they could have ever imagined.
